accents across america class header.png

Class Length: 4 Weeks

Time/Dates: 7pm-9pm, Thursday evenings starting 4/9/20

Registration: $97

Pre-Requisites: Previous vocal training or theater experience will be helpful in this course, but is not required. This course will be run similarly to a professional theater course (rather than a comedy class, though some application and scene work will be required), so students should be prepared to move and vocalize as they might in this type of training.

COURSE SUMMARY

Participants will explore iconic dialects spoken throughout the country! By the end of this class, students will learn the foundations to multiple dialects - ranging from Boston/NYC, Appalachian, Texas, Minnesota and more. Students will learn skills for efficiently analyzing and acquiring a new dialect quickly, as well as get ample chances to improv and act using these new speech skills.

Highlights of this course include:

Acting in accent

Exploring character through voice and speech

Skill building for actors and performers

Tentative Schedule:

Wk1 - New England (Boston / NYC)

Wk2 - The South (Kentucky to Texas)

Wk3 - The North and West (Minnesota and California)

Wk4 - Application & Performance (monologues, scenes, etc.)

This course will run for four consecutive Thursdays from 7-9pm, beginning April 9th. Acting, performance, improv or voice/speech experience recommended, but not required.

Please note: this is a skills based class that will be conducted like a professional acting or theater course. While there will certainly be comedy elements to the class, students should be prepared for instruction that focuses on understanding your instrument, which may include movement, vocalization or breathing techniques.

Playing with Purpose: Building Scenes through Character & POV

Playing with Purpose: Building Scenes through Character & POV

  • Hashtag Comedy's Learning Center at The Fort (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Class date/time: Saturday, February 22 from 1-5pm

Registration fee: $67

About this Workshop

In improv we don’t want to be generally weird; we want to be specifically weird. Having a strong character and point of view makes it so much easier to establish and heighten your scenes. In this four hour longform improv intensive, students will focus on:

  • Coming in with a strong emotion or point of view and letting that inform your choices

  • Heightening based on if this is true about your character, what else is true?

  • Playing two peas in a pod scenes and playing off each other

...plus focused coaching and feedback from your instructor.

Students should have a basic understanding or education/experience with longform improv. Space for this intensive is very limited; register early to guarantee seating.

The workshop will be from 1-5 pm with a 12 person cap.

Attendees are asked to arrive 15 minutes early to check-in.
